SSD Mission:
Improve NWS services through the integration of improved
science, data and new technology into operations
Foster improved professional development and training program
at the Forecast Offices
Anticipate and plan for future needs - emphasis on NWS Strategic
Goals and GPRA goals as it relates to unique western U.S. forecast issues

SSD Activities:
Improve forecasters knowledge of current conditions in complex terrain
through integration of mesonet data and better analysis systems
Improve forecast services through introduction of new data sets/
experimental model data into operations
Internet and Web Services - Develop and implement new web services
Adapt new systems to solve regional operational issues, such as FX-NET
Improve forecasters knowledge through training:
Author and publish WR TA's, TMs, ATNs and AWIPS LADS (applications)
Conduct regional training workshop
Regional management activities:
SSD conducts office visit at each forecast office at least once
per year and provides training sessions
Support SOO program
